Das Oktett beschreibt eine Gruppe von 8 Bits. Der Begriff wird heute synonym mit dem Byte verwendet.
Ein Byte muss nicht immer 8 Bit haben. 1956 hatte das Byte bei der IBM noch 6 Bit.
